Acupuncture
Acupuncture is the insertion of small needles into specific points on the body. Stimulation of acupuncture points can help the body to heal disease by increasing blood circulation, relieving muscle spasm, stimulating nerves, and causing the release of hormones such as endorphins.
Acupuncture is used to treat many conditions such as musculoskeletal problems including sore backs, pain from arthritis or tendon injuries, and general performance issues. Acupuncture is also frequently used to treat internal diseases such as anhydrosis (inability to sweat), neurologic conditions, laminitis, geriatric weakness, and many other conditions.
Regular acupuncture treatment can treat minor sports injuries as they occur and is a fantastic addition to conventional treatment for sport horses.
The length and frequency of acupuncture treatments depends on the condition of the patient. Usually an acute condition may require only one or two treatments, while a chronic condition may require a series of treatments.
